Anyone out there like to work/play with Italian or British designed electronics? I’ve been playing with Arduino and Raspberry Pi projects lately and I’m wondering if anyone on Oppo is into it and if you’ve done anything with your cars.

So far I’ve made a photo booth that uploads to Flickr with the Pi, animated a strand of LEDs to incorporate into a lightsaber with an Arduino, done a mostly successful music server on the Pi that I did replace with a Chromecast audio, and I just added an LCD shield to an Arduino and loaded some open source rowing computer software for a CList rowing machine that didn’t have one.

I’m a total amateur but it is still fun.

Yes, I do the Arduino for fun and occasionally for work when I need to cobble something stupid together for an experiment. I’m into the EE, surface functionalization and inorganic electrochemistry side of things, and use arduino and custom(ized) scripts to support that work.

I also use it as an accelerometer and GPS chip for my nitro buggy so I can track performance. I buy those sort of breakout boards from Sparkfun.

Tried using a Pi to run my 3d printer, but it didn’t like the new chip I got to power the printer. I did a lot of robotics in college though, so I’ve done plenty with arduinos. I want to make one into an OBD2 digital dash

That would be awesome. Would you use one of the elm adapters and a simple LCD shield like a 16x2? Or something more graphical?

If you ever do, please post the script. That would be very fun to attempt.

Not sure. I’ve been working on the car too much to flesh it out fully. At the very least if the arduino can do the obd2 bluetooth, I can have idiot lights for coolant temp and stuff

I would like to know how you like the chromcast audio.

Use Arduino at my work for all sorts of odd fixtures and test jigs. Done some quite cool stuff like a datalogger of a sensor which is dipping and raising the sensors into water. Test rig which runs a product, records its performance and pass/fails it.

Did have a crack at a RiPi but never really found a good enough use for it for me to justify mucking around with it.

I like it. Its not perfect but it’s quite good. It does lack an eq, which I had with my Pi+Wolfson audio card hat/shield. I have it going optical into a Denon mini system and it sounds great. I stream from Google play 99% of the time. I use the $16/month family plan so we have it on 2 phones and one cheap Galaxy tab that sits in the living room.
